Galveston Island Beach Revue
During the 1920s and early 1930s, Galveston was host to the Pageant of Pulchritude (predecessor to the Miss Universe Pageant) which was resurrected in 2009 as a two-day, family friendly event dubbed the Galveston Island Beach Revue. New this year, the event is featuring a speakeasy themed event Friday night featuring live music with Dandy Wellington and His Band from New York City and the official introduction of the 2017 Bathing Beauties at Hotel Galvez. On Saturday, guests can expect live music, a vintage car and trailer show, craft beer booths and "Bathing Beauties Contest" where 40 contestants compete in vintage and vintage-inspired swimwear for cash prizes. Friday events are at Galvez Bar & Grill at Hotel Galvez while Saturday events are adjacent to the hotel at Beach Central and events are free to the public.
